Margaret Oldenburg was born in Carlton, Minnesota in 1892. She received a B.A. from Vassar College, as well as a B.S. in Education from the University of Minnesota. She spent several years teaching in various high schools in Minnesota before earning a B.S. in Library Science from the University of Minnesota.
